I’ve set up this blog in response to the reaction to a post my wife made on Facebook…..

My husband was preaching at church today. Right in the middle of it, our 2yo grabbed the little bag of jelly beans that someone had given his 3yo bro and streaked to the front of the church to escape his older brother that was screaming all the way down the aisle until he tackled his little brother and retrieved the stolen jelly beans. My husband just kept preaching while he pulled them off each other. I was laughing so hard I was of no use. Life with preschoolers, my friends. And grateful for a church that welcomes children into every service.

 Now many of her posts generate a few likes but this one generated nearly (as of this post) 250! So that’s almost like going viral It had a bigger reaction then her Chipotle style Pork Carnitas recipe – which is saying something indeed. What also caught my attention were some of the comments:

I would give anything to go to a church that kid-friendly!

I have yet to be in a church that kids were welcome !!

Later on others were encouraging her to write more about the whole topic of children in church (particularly littlelies) and I’m sure she will…. BUT… this is an issue that is even larger than the unfortunate situation of people not feeling their church is welcoming of children. To understand why such a situation occurs and maybe how to address it requires us to examine what worship is itself and what it’s purpose is.

So I thought I would take a stab at exploring these issues on this blog. Just in case it wasn’t clear earlier, “the husband” preaching in the post was me I’ve put a very basic profile up so far and I’ll gradually flesh out some more content.

But to begin with, let me ask you for your comments. Over the next few weeks I am going to put up various questions to get a feel for what people think and what would be worth exploring more.
